Antimicrobial Peptides (2025)

Abstract

This chapter focuses on the practical implementation of computational tools to effectively manage vast peptide databases, extracting crucial biological insights applicable to various domains. These applications encompass drug development, molecular analysis of peptides’ functions, understanding their structure and interactions, and exploring their diverse biological activities, among other essential uses. However, researchers face the challenge of selecting appropriate databases or computational tools for peptide analysis, considering their strengths and limitations. The chapter discusses various databases used in peptide analysis and how to choose the best one for specific research objectives. Besides, the chapter examines techniques to retrieve data from online platforms automatically and introduces the programming language Python with various libraries for data extraction and manipulation. Finally, the chapter provides essential recommendations for best practices while handling large databases of antimicrobial peptides.
